According to reports gathered from well meaning individuals of the public by some Environmentalist who were at the scene to witness the extent of damage caused by the spill, the spill emanated from a damaged pipeline from Egbokodo-Urhobo axis which has polluted the adjoining water body making it unsafe for use. Dead aquatic lives are observed by the shore resulting from nonavailability of dissolved Oxygen in the water.
I want to use this medium to call on the Warri South Local Government Council, the Delta state environmental management agency and all other relevant environmental protection agencies of Govt to swing into action ASAP to save our environment from this environmental pollution and danger to the aquatic ecosystem.
A thorough investigation as to the cause of the spill and an environmental impact assessment study should be carried out also to ascertain the level of damage with the proper bioremediation approach in view. We all depend on the environment for survival and as such must do all we can to protect it for the future generation.
The time to act once again is NOW!
