The Art Of Climbing The Podium
“When you say a thing amidst the crowd, few people listen to you; but when you say same thing on the podium, everyone listens to you.” ~Russells Apuam Enogha
It is not the quality of your message per se, but it is the platform from which it is passed that determines the efficacy of your message.
You might have the best message, the most suited solution for a particular problem, but without the right platform to present such, attention will not be given to it.
You can't present such amidst the crowd. It's rare the right people will be listening.
You have to climb the podium.
You have to climb the stage.
But how do you climb the podium?
While some are born on the podium (e.g. Princes), others have to climb the podium themselves.
You are either invited to the podium or you create one.
• You will be invited to the podium when you are diligent in what you do. You have to craft a good reputation of mastery of your trade by being diligent.
Become the best at what you do. Only the perceived best are invited to the podium.
• Cease every opportunity to appear on stage. However little, however big.
• Fly with the eagles. Associate with people that make your uncomfortable in your current level.
• Showcase your trade. No one appreciates gold hidden in a container.
• Be nice and help whoever you come across in whatever way you can. This is the most important because someone has to invite you to the podium and it can be anybody.
See the story of Joseph in the Bible. It was the King's butler that invited him to the podium (before the king).
On the other hand, you create a podium by creating a platform to express yourself. This, however, is part of the process of gaining attention in order to be invited to a higher podium.
Keep climbing until you become the podium. This is when you have developed an authority figure.
