OMG: The amnesty Office Trying To Short-change The Itsekiri Nation Via Gregory University, Uturu
Some Itsekiri Amnesty beneficiaries in Gregory University Uturu, sent our news-desk the latest happenings in the school as it pertains to the Beneficiaries of the Presidential Amnesty Program (PAP).
The students/beneficiaries alleged that for over four(4) months they have been in the university studying various courses and where waiting for the Amnesty Office to make payment as promised, only to get the shocker of their life.
Gbubemi Nelvin Ogharandukun (student/beneficiary) said:
Gregory University just received a list from amnesty and no Itsekiri student/beneficiary name was on the list. After over 100 students/beneficiaries
that was sent there by the amnesty program they just sent 34 names down and no Itsekiri Name was on the list, we already have over 25 Itsekiris(myself included) studying for various courses in the school but none of our names made the cut not to talk of the other ethnic nationalities whose names was scrambled out.
I received a text message, requesting that I report to Asaba for Interview/Screening, which I did. I reported to Asaba as requested and wrote a test which was also the interview/screening conducted by the Amnesty Office. Few weeks later, I received a text message from OSPAND that I was successful and that I should report to Gregory University, Uturu, for admission/resumption and failure to resume within two(2) weeks of receiving the text message is a signal of forfeiture of my admission. I resumed Gregory University on the 3rd day of receiving the text message. Prior to that I called the the Department of Education, Amnesty Office, to confirm my admission, and I was told by one Precious(A lady in the department of education, Amnesty Office) that my Admission is genuine and I am to resume in the University within 2 weeks of receiving the text message. Few days ago, we heard rumours that the Amnesty Office has been playing a game of checkers with the school but those rumours was confirmed today 30th May 2018The President, Itsekiri National Youth Congress(INYC) Comr. Awani Esimaje, said he and his team are working fervently to ensure that this ugly incident is resolved and does not spiral to other schools.
This development is ongoing and we will bring you more as the story unfold.
