Politics & Branding - Omasanjuwa Ogharandukun

Political branding is about how a political organisation or individual is perceived overall by the public. It is broader than the product; whereas a product has distinct functional parts such as a politician and policy, a brand is intangible and psychological.

A political party is in itself a proper brand with its own identity and brand image.

For decades we have been sold the concept of Customer Loyalty, which in my opinion is a scam, because no one is loyal to any brand. If you are loyal, you will forgive your brand if they made a mistake or screw your order, because you are not loyal to any brand, you switch brands, and if you stick to your brand, it is because of habit or the experience you derived and not out of loyalty. So if any political party is still peddling Party Loyalty, then that political party is about to hit rock bottom, for the electorates/party members do not seek loyalty but experience derived.
How you create an experience for your party members will go a long way to either make or mar your political position.
Thus system of political loyalty/subjugation is not helping anyone and sadly, our political bigwigs still play that loosing game. What they hope to gain from a fail system and pattern is beyond me really.

The next is Customer/Electorate advocacy which is pretty much in vogue right now due to assistance from social media platform and social media influencers. This pattern is effective but with the primitive political system we have, we may never get the full benefit of this pattern. Because those who try to use this pattern do not understand the full extent of it and what is really at stake. They go 1/100th of the journey and then blame their lack of result on externalities. This pattern is costly and very cumbersome, which may explain why political parties and party loyalist find it hard to go all the way, you need expert in Advocacy and digital advocates as well, for this is just the tip, you need paid workers and volunteers who will use system designed by the expert to canvass for support.
