2016’s Best Celeb-Inspired Prom Looks

Celebrity red carpet looks have been inspiring what students wear to prom for years. Remember all those A.B.S. by Allen Schwartz knockoffs that would miraculously appear the morning after Oscars night?
This year, it seems that teens have gone above and beyond in the imitation-as-flattery department. From DIY Beyoncé realness to off-the-rack Selena Gomez lewks, here’s a peek at some of the best celeb-inspired gowns of the 2016 prom season.

The youngest Jenner went all out for her mother Kris’s Great Gatsby-themed 60th birthday party, wearing a crystal-covered gown by Kuwaiti designer Yousef Al-Jasmi. This teen recreated her look, keeping the side-swept, 1920s ‘do, and adding a more demure white lining and wrist corsage. (Photo: @daii.lynn/Instagram)

Gaga won high praise for the Brandon Maxwell gown-and-pants look she wore to the 2016 Oscars, which this teen recreated for her high school prom. (Photo: @africangirlskillingit/Instagram)

Student Katarina Colling’s elegant black and gold dress was very similar in style to the Alexander McQueen gown Jessica Chastain wore to the 2012 Oscars. (Photo: @katscarlett9/Instagram)

Rita Ora’s glittery, ice blue Alexandre Vauthier Couture feather dress — which she wore to the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards — definitely inspired this gorgeous prom gown. (Photo: @promkillas/Instagram)
