NIGER-DELTA : More trouble in Delta as three lifeless bodies found floating in Warri river

There seems to be more  tension in Delta State  as what began as a misunderstanding between the people of Aladja in Udu Local Government Council and Ogbe-Ijoh in Warri South West Local Government Area is assuming a more dangerous dimension by splitting to Agbasa, resulting to alleged secret killings.

The acting spokesman of Ijaw People's Development Initiative, IPDI, Mayor Timi Ogobiri said earlier yesterday that three lifeless bodies of  Ijaw youths where reportedly found dead in the Warri river on Monday morning.

The spokesman of IPDI particularly fingered the Urhobos of Agbasa and Aladja indigenes as the masterminds of the killings, warning that Urhobos should not forget that they are also living in Ijaw settlements.

Major Ogobiri also called on Ijaws living in Urhobo lands to begin the process of going back home as a measure to avoid untimely death, stressing that there is a killer Urhobo squad that goes about killing Ijaws within the Warri axis.

Ogobiri particularly urged Urhobos not to forget the history of previous ethnic crisis in the state, particularly Warri, alleging that no one has the monopoly of violence.

The statement read in part, "It is shocking as we discover three lifeless bodies suspected to be innocent Ijaws who may have been killed and thrown to the river by some heartless Aladja and Agbasa communities indigenes.

"There has been several incidents of attack against Ijaw People in Warri, Uhrobo youths are now secretly going after Ijaws irrespective of where they came from in Warri in a view to eliminate such persons. Several Ijaws are now rumoured to be missing from their residents in Warri.

"The three lifeless bodies found in Warri river are suspected Ijaws who may have been killed by Uhrobo youths who now secretly go after Ijaw People randomly. Those who are into this random and indiscriminate killing should know that nobody has a monopoly of killing. They should know that Uhrobo are still in Ijaw communities." Major stated

Adding that, "It is my warning that those Uhrobo youths who now go about killing Ijaws secretly in hinterlands of Warri should desist forthwith, as such actions will end up fanning ethnic crisis among Ijaw and UHROBOs. We should learn a lesson from previous Warri crises.

"We call on area command Warri and commissioner of police, Delta state to make a prompt inquest into the killing of the three corpse floating in Warri river.

"It is my call that Ijaws in Uhrobo communities should return home to avoid being killed indiscriminately. We have turn vulnerable and God will fight for us. " Timi alleges.
